The health risk assessment method was applied to assess the health risk caused by the typical toxic organic pollutions in water of Wuhan reach in Yangtze River based on the monitored data, including the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), phthalic esters (PAEs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These toxic organic pollutions may enter the humanbody through drinking water, dermal contact and fish consumption. The results show that the carcinogenic risk indexes varies from 5.37×10^-8a^-1to 1.67×10^-4a^-1, with the greatest health risk being caused by benzo (a) pyrene (BAA). At the meantime, the averaged non-carcinogenic risk index is 2.19×10^-10a^-1, which is much lower than the maximum tolerable value recommended by ICRP. The comparison of health risks of different routes of exposure shows that the fish consumption is the main route of organic pollution endangering the human health, its contribution to the total risk is much higher than that of drinking water and dermal contact. |
