                  Abstract:Rockisanimportantcomponentofrock - filledconcrete(RFC),anditssizehasasignificantimpacton
                  thefracturefailureofself - compactingconcrete.Inordertostudytheeffectofrocksizeonthefractureperform
                  ance ,fracturetoughnesstestswerecarriedoutonself - compactingconcreteembeddedwithsinglerockwithdiffer
                  entsizes(20mm,25mm,30mm,35mm).Bycombiningacousticemission(AE)anddigitalimagecorrelation
                  technology (DIC),thedynamicmonitoringofthefractureprocessofspecimenswascarriedout,andtheeffectof
                  rocksizeonthefractureperformancewascomparedandanalyzed.Theresultsshowthatasthesizeoftherockin
                  creases ,thecrackingtoughnessofselfcompactingconcreteshowsatrendoffirstincreasingandthendecreasing,
                  whiletheinstabilitytoughnessshowsagradualincreasingtrend.Comparedwiththespecimenswithoutrock,when
                  thesizeoftherockis30mm,thecrackingtoughnessandinstabilitytoughnessincreaseby10.8% and12.5% re
                  spectively,andtherockhasasignificantcrackresistanceeffect;Asthesizeoftherockincreases,theAEsignals
                  generatedbyspecimenfailuregraduallyincrease.TheAEringingcountsgeneratedatthepeakloadare39%,
                  47%,63%,and68% ofthenon - rockspecimen,respectively.ThecumulativeAEringingcountsafterthepeak
                  loadare130%,140%,148%,and164% ofthenon - blockspecimen,respectively;TheDICresultsshowthat
                  asthesizeoftherockincreases ,themaximum horizontaldisplacementintheDICtestareagraduallyincreases.
                  Whenthesizeoftherockis35mm,themaximumhorizontaldisplacementis4timesthatofthenon - rockspeci
                  men ;Themaximum horizontalstraininthefractureprocesszone(FPZ)graduallyincreaseswiththeincreaseof
                  rocksize.Theresearchresultsrevealthemechanismoftheeffectofrocksizeonthecrackpropagationofself - com
                  pactingconcreteinrock - filledconcrete ,anddemonstratetheinhibitoryeffectofrock - filledonthecrackdevelop
                  mentofself - compactingconcrete.
