Abstract:Atpresent,thenumberofbrokenwiresisthemainfactorconsideredinthestructuralperformanceas
sessmentofprestressedconcretecylinderpipe (PCCP).Duetothegrippingeffectofmortaronbrokenwires,the
initialsize ,extensiontiming,andextensionamplitudeoftherangeineachbrokenwireregainingitsfulltension
arekeyindicatorsforstudyingthepreservationofprestressinthecore.Basedondistributedfiberopticsensors ,
thispaperpresentsfourprototypeexperimentsonthePCCPswiththesamedesignparameters,focusingonwire
breakageuntilfailure ,consideringtheeffectsoftwowire - breakingtypesunderthreeloadtypes.Theultimate
numbers (rates)ofbrokenwiresintheexperimentsoftheclusteredandscatteredwirebreakageundertheconstant
internalpressure ,scatteredwirebreakageunderthecyclicinternalpressure,andclusteredwirebreakageunder
theconstantexternalloadare60(19.8%),185(61.1%),140(46.2%),and150(49.5%),respectively.Ex
perimentalinvestigationobtainednumbersofbrokenwirescorrespondingtothedamageofconstituentmaterialsand
thefinalfailureofpipesunderdifferentconditions ,whichrevealedthelawsoftheprestresslossandfailureofthe
core,highlightingkeyfactorsthatshouldbeconsideredwhenevaluatingthestructuralperformanceofPCCPwith
brokenwires.Furthermore,itprovidesabasisfordevelopinganumericalmethodforsimulatingthewire - breaking
process.
