                  Abstract:UrbanfloodingintheGuangdong - HongKong - MacaoGreaterBayareahasbecomeincreasinglyserious
                  inrecentyears.ThispapercombedthetypicalfloodeventsintheGreaterBayArea ,summarizedthecharacteristics
                  offlooding,andanalyzedthemaindrivingfactors.Theresultsshowthatformorethan100years,theannualpre
                  cipitation ,theaveragedailyrainfall,andthenumberofrainstorm daysshowanupwardtrend,whiletherainfall
                  dayhasdecreased ,whichindicatesthatrainfallisincreasingandtendstoconcentrate.Thetemporalandspatial
                  distributionofrainfallisuneven.Inrecenttenyears,therainfallinthefloodseasoninGuangzhou,Dongguan,
                  andHuizhouaccountsfor81% oftheannualrainfall,andtherainfallduringthedragon - boatraininGuangzhou
                  accountsforabout22% oftheannualvalue.Besides,althoughtheurbanagglomerationintheGreaterBayArea
                  presentsaheatislandeffect,andthetemperatureineachcityhasincreasedandispositivelycorrelatedwithrain
                  fall;therelationshipbetweenrainfallandurbanizationrateineachcityisnotobviousduetotheinfluenceofgeo
                  graphicallocation ,whilethecoastalcitiesinthelowerreachesarefacingmorefrontalrainandtyphoonrain.Inthe
                  pastdecade ,47typhoonsbroughtheavyrainormoretotheGreaterBayArea,occurringfrom JunetoOctober,
                  amongwhich21coincidedwiththeastronomicaltideand26landedinthewestoftheGreaterBayArea.Inaddi
                  tion ,therateofsealevelrisealongthePearlRiverEstuaryinthepast40yearswas3.5mm?a,higherthanthena
                  tionalaverage ,andtheriseofsealevelinthefuturemaybringnewriskstotheGreaterBayArea.Theanalysisof
                  heavyrainfall ,typhoonsurge,andsealevelchangecanprovideanimportantreferencefordisasterpreventionin
                  thisarea.
