                  Abstract:Thestudyonthevibrationcharacteristicsinducedbydifferentkindsofblast - holesinhydropowerdam
                  foundationexcavationisofsignificanceforthesafetycontrolofblastvibration.Basedononsiteblastingexperi
                  ments,thePeakParticleVelocity(PPV)andtheDominantFrequency(DF)ofblastvibrationinducedbythe
                  productionblast - holes ,thepresplittingblast - holesandsmoothblast - holeswerecomparedindamfoundationexca
                  vation.Moreover,combiningwiththeanalysisoftheblastingboundaries,thedynamicresponsesofrockmass
                  werestudiedbyusingthenumericalsimulationsoftware.Finally,theinherentcausesofthedifferencesofvibration
                  inducedbydifferentkindsofblast - holeswerediscussed ,fromtheviewsofthedistributionofexplosionenergyand
                  thedevelopmentofplasticzone.Theresultsindicatethatwhenthemaximumchargeofeachshotandthedistance
                  betweentheexplosivecenterareatthesamelevel,thePPVandtheDFinducedbypresplittingblast - holesarerel
                  ativelylargerthanthoseinducedbyproductionblast - holesandsmoothblast - holes,whilethePPVandDFinduced
                  bysmoothblast - holesareapproximatetotheproductionblast - holes.Thepresplittingblast - holesarealwaysthe
                  firstfiredblast - row.Theirburdenwidthisthusbiggerthanthatofproductionblast - holesandsmoothblast - holes.
                  Moreover ,theexplosivescharginginthepresplittingblast - holesaregenerallyradiallyandaxiallydecoupledwith
                  therockmass,sotheyarelaterallyinitiatedbythedetonatingcord.Asaresult,theblast - induceddamagezone
                  andtheplasticzoneisrelativesmaller.Therefore ,lessenergyisconsumedbyrockfragmentationandmoreexplo
                  siveenergyistransmittedintovibrationenergy.Thesmoothblast - holeshavethesimilarchargingstructureandini
                  tiationmodewithpresplittingblast - holes ,buttheburdenwidthofsmoothblast - holesissmaller.Consequently,
                  theblast - inducedplasticzoneandtransmittedvibrationenergyofsmoothblast - holesaresimilarwiththatofpro
                  ductionblast - holes.Theblastingboundary (i.e.,chargingstructure,initiationmodeandburdensizeetc.)plays
                  animportantroleonthedistributionofplasticzoneandexplosionenergy ,whichistheinherentcauseofthediffer
                  encesofvibrationcharacteristics.
