Abstract:Transienthydrauliccharacteristicssuchasflowseparation,vortexstructure,andhigh - amplitudepres
surepulsationwillappearinsidetheturbineandundergotherunawaytransitionprocess.Inordertoclarifythehy
drauliccharacteristicsoftheturbineduringtherunawayprocess ,alow - headFrancismodelturbineisusedasthe
researchsubjectinthispaper.Thetransientflowprocessfromratedspeedtorunawayspeedisnumericallystudied ,
andtherunawayspeedanddischargearedetermined.Theseresultsareingoodagreementwiththefindingsfromthe
