Abstract:Itisanimportantwaytoacceleratethedevelopmentofpumpedstoragebybuildinghybridpumpedstor
ageplantbasedonthelarge - scaletraditionalhydropower.Comparedwithtraditionalpumped - storagehydropower
plants,thehybridpumped - storagehydropowerplant(HPSHP)retrofittedfrom atraditionalhydropowerplanthas
significantcharacteristicssuchascloserhydraulicconnection ,morecomplexpumpingandgeneratingoperation
modeconversion,andmoreprominentrolesof“bothquantityandregulation”.InordertoexploreHPSHP’soper
ationalmode ,ajointshort - termoperationmodelforwindpowerandHPSHPisproposedinthispaper.Themodel
aimstomaximizetheoverallprofitsoftheconsortium ,andtakestheunitastheminimumschedulingunit.Theu
nitsaremodelledaccordingtothedifferentialoperatingcharacteristicsofthetraditionalunitsandthepumping - stor
ageunits,andstatevariablesareintroducedtorealizethedecouplingandassociationswitchingoftheoperating
states.Intermsofmodelsolving,theoriginalmodelwasconvertedtoamixedintegerlinearprogramming(MILP)
modelbylinearizationmethodandmodelingskills,andfinallysolvedbyCPLEX toolinJAVA environment.A
casestudyofahydropowerplantinsouthwestChinaverifiestheeffectivenessoftheproposedmodelandsolution
method ,whichcanprovideareferencefortheretrofittingoftraditionalhydropowerplants.
