Abstract:Variable - speedpumpedstorage,asarelativelynewform ofunit,hasuniqueadvantagesovertradi
tionalfixed - speedunitsinparticipatinggridphaseregulationandpowerregulation.Asatypicaltransitionprocess
forhydropowerunitstocopewithfluctuationsinintermittentrenewableenergysourcessuchaswindpowerandpho
tovoltaic ,phaseregulation - generationhasasignificantimpactonpressurefluctuationsinflow - passingpartsand
thestabilityofunit.Theschemeofasinglepenstockfeedingmultiplepumpturbineswidelyusedincurrentpumped
storagepowerplantshasthephenomenonofhydraulicinterference ,andthechangeofoneunit’sworkingcondition
willaffecttheoperationofotherunits.Meanwhile ,usingthevariablespeedunitsmaycausethehydraulicdynamic
characteristicsoftheunitsdifferentfrom thoseofthetraditionalunits.Todeeplyexplorethehydraulicdynamic
characteristicsandrelatedstabilityissuesofcomplexpipelinesystemsunderdifferentunitarrangementsinthetran
sitionprocessofphasemodulation - powergeneration ,combinedwithengineeringdata,themodelofonepipeand
twopumpedstorageunitsunderthreedifferentunitcombinationswasbuiltbasedonthemethodsofcharacteristic
lineandS - function.Thedynamiccharacteristicsofhydraulicfactors,suchasvolutepressure,tailpipepressure
aswellassurgetankflowrate ,andtheireffectsonthestabilityofthestorageunitswerestudiedseparatelyfordif
ferentunitarrangementswithdifferentoperationintervals.Thequantitativeanalysisresultsshowthatunderthe
phasemodulation - generationcondition ,theworkingheadandvolutepressuredecreasesfirstandthenrises,and
thetailwaterpressure ,thewaterlevelandflowrateofthedownstreamsurgewellshowsinusoidaldampingoscilla
tion.Thestabilityeffectofthefixed - variable - speedunitcombinationisthebest ,andthedoublevariable - speed
combinationformhasthelargesthydraulicfluctuation.Thisstudyprovidescertaintheoreticalbasisforthesafeand
stableoperationoffixedandvariable - speedpumpedstoragepowerplants.
