sedimentoutofthelakeandadjustment

Abstract:PoyangLakeisanimportantpartoftheecosystemoftheYangtzeRiverBasin.Inrecentyears,thelow
waterlevelofPoyangLakeanditslowwatertimehaveshownregularandtrendchanges,whichhavecausedexten
siveresearch.AsalinkbetweentheYangtzeRiverandthelake,thePoyangLakechannelplaysanimportantrole
intheevolutionoftheriver - lakerelationship.Especiallysince2001 , therehasbeenadistinctandcomplex
processofchangesandthereasonsforthisareobviouslycontroversial.Basedonhydrologicalandsedimentobserva
tionsandmechanismstudies ,therelationshipbetweenthesedimentchangesflowintoandoutofPoyangLakeand
thesedimentcarryingcapacityofthechannelwasanalyzed.Researchindicates:Themonthlyflowvelocityofthe
representativesectionofthechannelisproportionaltothemonthlysedimentconcentrationoutofthelake.Thesedi
mentvolumeoutofthelakeisdirectlyrelatedtothesedimenttransportcapacityofthechannel.Theeffectofthe
inflowsedimentontheevolutionofthechannelwasslow.FromApriltoJune ,whentheinflowsedimentwascon
centrated ,thereductionamountandratiooftheoutflowsedimentweresmallerthanthereductionamountandratio
oftheinflowsediment,andwerelargerthanthereductionratioofthesedimenttransportcapacityineachmonth
around1985.Comparedwith1955 - 1998 ,thechangeratioofmonthlysedimentconcentrationoutofthelakehada
goodrelationshipwiththechangeratioofthemonthlysediment - carryingcapacityofthechannel.Fromtherelation
shipbetweenthesedimentconcentrationoutofthelakeandthevelocityoftherepresentativesection ,thesediment
concentrationfrom1999to2010wasgenerallylowerthanthecorrelationlinefrom1955to1998withoutconsidering
thechangeofthesection ,andwashigherthanthecorrelationlinefrom1955to1998afterconsideringtheexpan
sionofthesection.Theresultsindicatethattheincreaseofsedimentconcentrationandtheexpansionofchannel
sectionfrom1999to2010aretheresultoferosionandsandmining.Duetotheexpansionofthecross - section ,the
sedimentcarryingcapacityhadreduced ,thesedimentconcentrationoftherepresentativesectionofthelowerreach
channelfrom2011to2020wasbasicallyconsistentwiththerelationshiplineof1955to1998atthesamevelocity ,
whiletherelationshiplineoftheupperrepresentativesectionwassignificantlylowerthanthatof1955to1998.This
indicatesthatthelowersectionofthechannelhastendedtobestableandtheuppersectionwillstillhaveacertain
scouringadjustment,andthelakedrywaterlevelmaycontinuetodecline.Theresultsofthisstudyareofgreatsig
nificanceforclarifyingthescouringandsedimentationofthechannel ,theinteractionbetweentheYangtzeRiver
andthePoyangLake,andforguidingtheprotectionandmanagementofthelake.
