                  Abstract:Inrecentyears,thepossibilityanduncertaintyofextremerainstormshaveincreasedintheworld,in
                  creasingtheriskofseverefloodsincities.Thecharacteristicsofurbanrainstorm floodaresignificantlydifferent
                  fromriverflood.Itisextremelyimportanttoinvestigateandcollectinformationofurbanrainstormforrecognizingits
                  characteristics.Inthispaper ,taking“7.20” heavyrainstorm inZhengzhouasanexample,basedonthegeo
                  graphicandsocialenvironmentcharacteristicsofZhengdongNewDistrict,theconvergingandsubmergingcharac
                  teristicsofurbanrainstormfloodandthedisaster - causingmechanismswereinvestigatedbymeansofsurvey ,oral
                  interview,dataanalysisandnumericalsimulation.Thecharacteristicsofurbanrainstorm floodmarks,andthe
                  basicmethodandroutineofrainstormfloodmarkssurveywereinvestigated.Basedonthe93floodmarksinthesur
                  veyarea ,theregionalsubmergencemapoftherainstormfloodwasfigured,andthedistributioncharacteristicsof
                  thepeakwaterlevelofurbanrainstorm floodandtheconfluencecharacteristicsinthesurveyareawereanalyzed.
                  Then ,themeasuringmethodoftheroadconfluencevelocityoftherainstormfloodandtheresistanceparameterof
                  theroadfordischargingfloodwereexplored.Theresultsshowthatthemaindischargingchannelofurbanrainstorm
                  floodistheroadoftheblock.Therefore ,theconfluencedirectionattributestothegeographicenvironmentandthe
                  layoutofroadnetwork.Thedistributionofsubmergingdepthofrainstormfloodisrelatedtotheunderlyingsurface
                  conditionandtheconfluencecharacteristicsofurbanrainstorm.Thedisaster - causingmechanismoftheurbanrain
                  stormfloodshowsthat ,theconvergingvolumeoftheextremelyrainstormisfarexceedthedischargingabilityofthe
                  undergroundpipelinenetwork.Thesurfacerunoffchoosestheroadwithlowresistantasthedischargingchannelof
                  therainstormflood,andtheflowvelocityofthefloodisalsoincreasedcomparingwiththenormalrainstormflood,
                  worseningthedisaster.Besides,thebackwaterandresistanceeffectaroundthejunctionsofthechannelswouldag
                  gravatethewaterlogging.That ’sthemainincentiveoftheextremelyrainstorm disaster - causing.Moreover,the
                  lackofcoordinationinflooddischargingabilitiesbetweenriverlakesystemsaswellandtheraredredgingworkof
                  theriverinthenewdevelopingcitydistrictleadstothefloodchannelobstructionoftheurbanriver.Therewould
                  turnupextremelyhighwaterlevel ,andthebackwaterintheintersectionofmainstreamandtributaries,decreasing
                  thecapacityofflooddischargingofthepipelineshighly.Thesearethedeterminereasonsoftheseverewaterlogging
                  disaster - causingoftheextremeurbanrainstormflood.Thefindingsoftheresearchmightsupplyvaluabletechnical
                  supportforestablishingstandardsurveymethodofurbanrainstormfloodanddesigningoffloodcontrolanddrainage
                  systeminnewdevelopingdistrict.
